Hello! Since my last post, things have improved greatly. As far as jiu jitsu goes, I had to readjust my mindset with jiu jitsu from something that was a fun past time to something that I really want to get better at. I started taking my training more seriously and even branching out by going to open mats and women’s only competition to class that has offered a nice of change of place from training with what tends to be almost all guys at my gym. I’ve also been doing more reading that I had in what feels like years and one the books I read was Heart Berries by Terese Marie Mailhot.
Heart Berries is a memoir and opens with Mailhot checking herself into treatment after having a breakdown. The book itself is very short but that doesn’t diminish it’s impact. It was very moving and could be disconcerting at times because of the subjects it covered:heart break, abuse, generational pain and trauma. Right now, I don’t have the book on me and can’t elaborate too much further but reading this book did serve as a balm to all the turmoil I had been experiencing with my feelings about jiu jitsu and my healing from the mess that had ensued the previous year. I definitely recommend this one.
Currently, still working on The Labyrinth of Solitude and a few other things and competing early next month!
